BV Coastal Estates Pinot Noir

For those of you who do not have a Trader Joe's in your area, my deepest sympathy's. It's a wonderful grocery store with excellent prices, good food and a great, inexpensive wine selection. A few minutes of searching through various wines on the shelf I decided I would give this Pinot a try. After uncorking and pouring myself a glass I could tell it needed to sit and open up a bit before it should be consumed. This was not unexpected as many red wines need this treatment, especially at first pour but what came next was totally unexpected.

Tasting Notes:
After letting it open up I took my first sip and was pretty amazed at the texture and taste. For a wine in this price range I was not expecting much and this punched way above it's weight. There is a tiny earthy, spicy kick at the beginning that mellows to a sweet cherry and oak taste. I would classify this wine as a firework, a pop up front with a nice sizzle as it dies. It's very smooth, but medium bodied and fairly mild on the tannins to give it just enough complexity.

This would be a great wine for a beginner to try if they are new to red's or for a dinner party as it will be enjoyable to a wide variety of palettes.

Rating: 86
Price: ~$6 (tough bargain to beat in this price range!)
